DT&I 259XX series excess height by Brian Everett after trip to the paint shop



HO scale model of a 16900 series 50' boxcar by Scott Heiden.  It's built from an Accurail #5600 50' AAR Outside Braced Boxcar kit with Details West #168 'Railbox' 10' Sliding Doors, Detail Associates #6240 Modern Coupler Lift Bars, Kadee #438 Air Hoses, Intermountain 33" wheelsets, 0.030"styrene lower door guide support blocks and a 0.010" Styrene plate for mounting the compass herald.

It was painted with Badger #16-014 Light Tuscan Oxide Red and the decals are SGS Decals #87-1030-DTI 50' boxcars. Microscale also offers a decal set for this car: MC-4268 DT&I 50' PS Boxcar.


Here's what the Accurail #3107 40' Plug Door Boxcar looks like with the ends and roof repainted. The sides were masked and the ends painted with Badger #16-163 CN Red #11. When dry the ends were also masked off, and the roof was painted with Floquil Polly S #414299 Flat Aluminum. The end lettering came from left-over decals in the parts box. Model by Scott Heiden.
