History

The 19300-19449 series insulated 40' boxcars were constructed in the DT&I's Jackson Shops in 1959 from boxcars in the 14300-14549 series built by Greenville Steel Car Co. in 1950. They  were insulated inside and rebuilt with 8' Superior plug doors and Keystone 10" end-of-car cushioning equipment; all cars had Murphy diagonal panel roofs,  Standard Ry. Equip. Co. Improved Dreadnaught ends and riveted sides. According to the 1980 equipment diagrams, the cars were on lease from National Equipment Leasing with the lease expiring January 21, 1982.

In 1969-70 140 cars recieved interior compartmentizer equipment: 100 random cars got Evans Dual Air Pak compartmentizers, and  40 recieved Evans "DFB" compartmentizers. By 1980 they rode on 50-ton ASF converted roller-bearing trucks with 33" wheels. They were assigned to Campbell Soup (routing code '1090') in Napoleon, Ohio.

Modeling the Car

Branchline Trains AAR 40' box 8' door #1504 DT&I #14300-14549

One way to model this car in HO would be to take the undecorated Branchline Trains AAR 40' box with 8' doors (#1500) and add Accurail 8' plug doors (#112-115) with an additional rod added to the outside of the existing door rods to approximate a Superior plug door. The side sill would also need to be filled in solid between the bolsters as well.
